Ramy's Thanksgiving Traditions
I love Thanksgiving because it is all about family. I grew up in Chatham (go Jersey!) with my parents and two sisters, Robi and Lori. Our town has a very close knit community, so every holiday celebration was all the more special. I usually spent Thanksgiving morning cheering on the Chatham Bourough High School football team while my mom prepared dinner. She would get up at 5AM to start cooking the turkey! Those were the days ...
Now, we start Thanksgiving morning off by serving meals at the Bowery Mission, a shelter in New York City that serves people experiencing homelessness. My family and I have been involved with this organization for years — it's so important to give back to the community, especially on Thanksgiving!
Later in the afternoon, my parents, sisters, in-laws and friends come over to my apartment on the Upper East Side to celebrate. It can get up to 30 of us, so it's always a big party.
I serve dinner buffet style so that everyone can go in for seconds (or thirds — Rob is an amazing cook!) Before we dive in, we all go around the table and share what we are thankful for.
Lastly, it wouldn't be a Sharp Thanksgiving without custom swag bags! I like to give out personalized sweatshirts, tees and hats for each guest — there is nothing like a great group photo to look back on.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, from our family to yours.
